Slow-Mo Video of Deshaun Watson's Leg Injury Leaves Fans Disturbed

Week 7 of the 2024 NFL season brought an AFC North battle between Deshaun Watson and the Cleveland Browns against Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals.

It certainly hasn't been the best start for the Watson-led Cleveland offense. They rank dead-last in the NFL in total yards per game (240.2) and are 30th in points per game, averaging 15.8.

But the Browns took a big hit to an already below-average offense as Watson went down in the second quarter with an apparent leg injury. With 1:22 left before halftime, Watson and the Browns had the ball at the Bengals 21-yard line.

After taking the snap out of shotgun formation, the three-time Pro Bowler stepped back and started to run. But, as he planted his right leg to begin moving forward, he buckled to the ground without coming into contact with anyone.

After being down for some time, Watson was carted off the field with tears in his eyes.

According to The Athletic's Jeff Howe , "Watson is believed to have suffered a torn Achilles," but the team, which ruled him out of the game with an Achilles injury, is awaiting further testing to confirm the severity.

A slow-motion video of Watson's injury later emerged on social media with the angle from the back end of the play. When NFL fans saw something pop in his right calf, they instantly became concerned for the Browns quarterback.

"You can see the achilles cave in omg," one fan said.

    "Yea he’s done," another added.

    "Career over," someone said.

"Hate to see that for any player," added another.

"Yeah it's over, remember seeing this when KD hurt his smh," a fan wrote.

"Hate to see this for any player. Third time in seven seasons that Watson suffers a season-ending injury," The Boston Globe's Ben Volin wrote.

"Looks incredibly painful," another fan said.

Watson was replaced by second-year backup Dorian Thompson-Robinson, who was thrust into action after the Browns demoted veteran Jameis Winston to their No. 3 emergency quarterback role for Sunday's game.

If the injury is confirmed as an Achilles tear, Watson would be out for the remainder of the 2024 season, and his NFL career could be in doubt. This would also not be the first time the 29-year-old quarterback has dealt with a serious injury.

In his rookie season in 2017, Watson suffered a torn ACL that kept him out the second half of the season. In 2023, Watson dealt with a fractured shoulder that also kept him out a good portion of the year.
