The WNBA Finals between the New York Liberty and Minnesota Lynx have been electric. These two teams finished first and second in the regular season standings, with New York winning 32 games and Minnesota winning 30.

Playing a decisive Game 5 on Sunday night, the Liberty and Lynx went to overtime after a very controversial call. As Liberty star Breanna Stewart was driving to the basket with just seconds remaining and her team trailing 60-58, a foul was called on Alanna Smith.

Stewart went to the line and made both free throws, but many believe there should not have been a foul called.

Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James was among those who disagreed with this call, and the NBA's all-time leading scorer made that clear in a post on X.

"I’m sorry but that wasn’t a foul," James said. "Let the damn players dictate the outcome of a close battled tested game."

Other fans believe Stewart traveled before there was any contact, which would have negated anything that occurred after, giving Minnesota possession.

"Stewie got away with a super obvious travel on the inbound," one fan wrote in a trending post on X.

Former NBA guard Rex Chapman agrees with this assessment and voiced that in a post on X.

"Breanna Stewart traveled twice before the foul was called," Chapman said.

There is often controversy in deciding games, and this WNBA Finals Game 5 is no exception. From James and Chapman down to casual fans, social media has been ablaze after this controversial call.
