Angel Reese's Interaction With Fired Coach Turned Heads At WNBA Finals

Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese attended Game 5 of the WNBA finals, sitting courtside to watch the elimination game between the Minnesota Lynx and New York Liberty.

While Reese was at the game, she was spotted with her former WNBA head coach, Teresa Weatherspoon. Reese posted a picture of their interaction on social media with the caption, "My heart is so full," while tagging her former coach on Instagram.

Weatherspoon coached Reese during her rookie year, just before getting fired from head coaching duties after the 2024 season.

Despite the release of Weatherspoon from the Sky, Reese has explained that she still carries a tight bond with her former coach.

When the Weatherspoon was initially fired, Reese had an emotional reaction to the news.

"I'm heartbroken. I'm literally lost for words knowing what this woman meant to me in such a pivotal point in my life," Reese said in September when Weatherspoon was fired. "She was the only person that believed in me... We built a relationship in a short amount of time that will last forever... I love you TSpoon."

Weatherspoon's role as the head coach of the Chicago Sky lasted one season. The Sky ended her sole season in Chicago with a 13-27 record, listed as the No. 10 team in the WNBA standings.

While it wound up being a disappointing season for the Sky, Reese was the bright spot in 2024. Reese averaged 13.6 points and 13.1 rebounds during her rookie season with the Sky.

She was named a WNBA All-Star in her first year and finished the Rookie of the Year voting at No. 2, behind Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark.

While Reese and Weatherspoon chatted on the sideline, the Liberty secured a 67-62 Game 5 victory. With the win over the Lynx, New York won the 2024 WNBA title.

Liberty center Jonquel Jones won the WNBA finals MVP, recording 17 points, six rebounds and one assist in the elimination game.
