Davante Adams Gives Blunt Response About Jets' Loss to Steelers in Debut

Davante Adams had a short week to prepare for his debut with the New York Jets, and the outcome was far from what he and the fanbase hoped for. The Jets allowed the Pittsburgh Steelers to reel off 31 straight points en route to a 37-15 loss.

For Adams, specifically, the night was mostly a forgettable one. While the excitement surrounding his reunion with quarterback Aaron Rodgers took center stage, the six-time Pro Bowler was quiet for most of the night. He did catch three passes for 30 yards in the first half but was a non-factor in the second half.

Although Adams tied for a team-high nine targets, he and Rodgers didn't link up a single time in the final two quarters. The newest Jets wideout spoke about the loss after the game and gave an interesting assessment.

"[We] Just didn't execute. The opportunities, or moments that we had to potentially put the ball in the end zone or finish a drive or get three or whatever it was, we just didn't execute, didn't finish," Adams said.

"And that's the underlying thing with this team this year. Obviously, I'm just getting here but hoping that I can do something to be able to change that."

Adams describing the Jets' issues this season during his first week with the team was certainly interesting. He's seemingly done plenty of research and evaluated how he can make an impact, even if it didn't pan out in his first game following the trade.

While there was optimism around Adams potentially hitting the ground running in his Jets debut, don't be surprised if his breakout performance comes sooner rather than later. And with the Jets now sitting at 2-5 on the season, the quicker Adams becomes a focal point, the better.
