Stephen A. Smith Declares NFL Team's Season 'Over' Following Week 7 Performance

Stephen A. Smith never holds back on his opinions, and he didn't mince words when declaring one team's season over on ESPN's "First Take" after a dismal Week 7 performance.

Historically a supporter of future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers , Smith has shifted his stance on the New York Jets following their 37-15 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers . This defeat was particularly disappointing for the Jets, especially since they had recently acquired Davante Adams .

With ex-head coach Robert Saleh absent, the Jets have now dropped to 2-5 overall and are 0-2 in his absence, leaving their season hanging by a thread. Smith's declaration underscores the urgency and bleak outlook for a team struggling to find its footing.

"This season is over. The New York Jets are done." Smith said, "You're 0-5 against winning teams... They got problems and I'm supposed to believe that this team is gonna win nine of there next ten or ten straight in order to get in the playoffs? I don't see it fellas, I just don't see it."

The Jets lost " Monday Night Football " to the Buffalo Bills last week, and there was a surge of optimism following their trade for Davante Adams less than 24 hours later.

Many believed this acquisition would reignite their season and provide much-needed energy. However, that hasn't materialized, and the team now finds itself with its back against the wall in the AFC.

With only two more losses permissible to maintain a legitimate playoff chance, the Jets are in a precarious position. The magic number for them is now 10-7, meaning they must finish the remaining ten games with an 8-2 record to have a shot at sneaking into the postseason. History indicates that a 9-8 finish will likely fall short of playoff contention, adding pressure to an already challenging situation.
