Unexpected Field Trespasser Steals the Show With Touchdown Run at College Football Game

The best part about college football is that fans can turn on their television seemingly every week and see something they've never seen before.

That was exactly the case on Saturday during the Week 9 matchup between the No. 18 Ole Miss Rebels and Oklahoma Sooners. With 1:26 remaining in the first quarter, the game was halted because of an unexpected visitor on the field.

It wasn't a drunk college student or fraternity pledge trying to gain approval, it was a squirrel. Unlike other programs that do have live animal mascots like Bevo the Longhorn at Texas or Ralphie the Buffalo at Colorado, Ole Miss does not have a four-legged animal scheduled to run onto the field.

In front of the rowdy Ole Miss crowd at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium, the squirrel can be seen running into the end zone while ESPN's Bob Wischusen provided play-by-play.

In the video, the crowd can be heard cheering as the squirrel scampers into the end zone. As for what happened to the squirrel, Wischusen did provide a bit of an update, saying that he left the field on his own accord.

"And the squirrel's up the alley and out the door," said Wischusen.

While Oklahoma came into this game as 19.5-point underdogs, they went into halftime with a 14-10 lead and a rejuvenated offense. The spark on offense comes after offensive coordinator Seth Littrell was fired following the team's 35-9 loss to South Carolina.

Former five-star quarterback Jackson Arnold also looks like a new player with Joe Jon Finley now calling the plays. If the Sooners hold on to the win, they can thank the change at offensive coordinator and maybe a bit of squirrel luck.

As for Ole Miss, the offense will need to score more touchdowns than the squirrel to win this game.
