Texas Drops in Latest AP Top 25 Poll After Three-Point Win Over Vanderbilt

Texas scraped by with a 27-24 win over Vanderbilt on Saturday but it wasn't pretty.

It's certainly nice for the Longhorns get back into the win column after suffering a 30-15 loss to Georgia the week prior, but it's clear Texas has several things to work on during their bye this week.

The Longhorns have seemingly struggled on offense the last few weeks, prompting head coach Steve Sarkisian to even bench starting quarterback Quinn Ewers at one point. Luckily, Texas owns the No. 1 defense in the nation and has kept the Longhorns in the game numerous instances.

Despite the three-point win over the Commodores in Week 9, Texas fell one spot in the latest AP Top 25 Poll . Sarkisian's squad is now the No. 6 team in the country, trailing Oregon, Georgia, Penn State, Ohio State and Miami.

This year is shaping up to be a close race for the SEC title. Both Texas and Texas A&M are favored to win the remaining games on their respective schedules prior to facing each other in a renewed rivalry game on Nov. 30 to close out the regular season.

The Longhorns and Aggies matchup could break viewership and attendance records if the game indeed has major College Football Playoff and SEC title implications on the line.

They still control their own destiny. Win out and you are in playoff. They are lucky to be in top 10, given their recent mediocrity.
