Eagles Coach Pushes Injured Line To Key Win Over Bengals

It doesn't matter who the Philadelphia Eagles have starting along the offensive line, they always seem to find a way to be dominant.

Their latest victory shows just the latest example of that reality.

In Sunday's 37-17 win over the Cincinnati Bengals, the offense was down two key starters in left tackle Jordan Mailata and right guard Mekhi Becton. Journeyman Fred Johnson took over the tackle role against Trey Hendrickson, and right guard Tyler Steen led the way as Becton's replacement.

One would be forgiven if offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland struggled to find ways to get his line to produce at a high level.

    Except that isn't what happened.

Johnson, in just his second start of the season replacing the injured Mailata, allowed one pressure on 22 pass-blocking snaps. Hendrickson came into the game with seven sacks and one of the highest sack totals since 2021.

    Johnson completely stymied him.

While Steen wasn't as dominant as Johnson, it's incredibly important for the Eagles to have the kind of game from Johnson that they got. It shows that Soutland's ability to get the offensive line on the same page is one of the reasons why the Eagles have made the playoffs in six of the last seven seasons.

And the group only appears to be getting better.
