Bluefield, WV—The President’s Emerging Scholars Academy (PESA) at Bluefield State University recently completed its enriching two-week summer academy. The program facilitated academic exploration, leadership development, and college readiness among a diverse group of future leaders. Over 30 high school students from Virginia, West Virginia, and Georgia converged on the Bluefield State campus, representing schools such as Bluefield High School, Carroll County High School, Graham High School, Mt. View High School, Princeton Senior High School, Westlake High School, and The Galloway School.
Judge threatens Sean Williams with gag order at day 2 of federal trial
GREENEVILLE, Tenn. — A judge threatened accused child rapist Sean Williams with a gag order on the second day of his federal trial in Greeneville on Wednesday. Williams is facing two escape-related charges, one for an alleged incident last July where authorities said Williams tried to escape from the Washington County Detention Center. Williams is also accused of escaping from a prisoner transport van in October. Williams was eventually captured in Florida in November.
Governor signs measures to ensure higher education funding for military dependents for next two years
“We are grateful that the governor and General Assembly agreed to provide funding in the state’s budget to help Virginia’s public colleges and universities offset the cost of VMSDEP for the next two years,” said VCCS Chancellor David Dore. “Until now, there had been no state appropriation to compensate our institutions of higher education for the cost of the tuition they are required to waive.”
