Abingdon honors fallen firefighter with I-81 bridge naming ceremony
A special dedication was made Thursday afternoon in Abingdon, Virginia for a fallen firefighter. Family and friends came together to honor Cameron Craig, who lost his life in the line of duty. The Town of Abingdon and V-DOT worked together to get the Exit 17 Bridge named after Craig. After brief remarks, the signs were unveiled to permanently memorialize the life he gave for the community he loved. There are now signs on both sides of the interstate and one on the underpass, in memory of Cameron.

Women's Volleyball Opens Season with Thrilling Five Set Victory
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - FDU women's volleyball opened their season earlier today with a thrilling match against Radford to kick off the weekend at Temple's Cherry and White Invitational. The Knights debuted with a gritty performance to best the Highlanders 3-2. Offense was the name of the game for set one, as both teams tallied over 30 attempts in the first 25 points. Despite an early 11-7 lead, the Burgundy and Blue were not able to hold off a hot hitting Highlander team. With 19 kills and just one error, Radford hit an impressive .500 on the set. Two services aces from Senior Emily Van O'Linda brought the Knights back to even with the Highlanders, but the effort was not enough as FDU lost set one 23-25.
Millions flow to area parks and recreation projects
When the state decided to dole out more than $30 million to 69 local parks and recreation projects this week, Surry County and Mount Airy were on the receiving end of funding that local officials hope will enhance the quality of life for residents.
