First Horizon Bank awards grants to these Georgia nonprofits
The First Horizon Foundation, the charitable arm of First Horizon Bank, has donated $70,000 to Georgia nonprofits as part of its Grants for Good campaign. <\p> Seven organizations in Georgia including the Alliance Theatre, Marietta Kiwanis Foundation, PAWS Atlanta and Westside Future Fund each received $10,000 grants. <\p>

‘Lock-in effect’ restricts homeowners despite inventory improvements
A U.S. housing market that continues to see home-price appreciation, paired with higher-for-longer mortgage rates, may prolong the lock-in effect that's stymied inventory the past couple of years.<\p> Many housing economists predicted 2024 would see more relief for homebuyers by way of greater inventory and households more willing to sell their homes after being tethered to record-low mortgage rates obtained during the Covid-19 pandemic.<\p>
Buckhead offices sell at 10% discount; more 'short sales' likely
A Buckhead office complex is the latest example of a major reset of values heading for the U.S. office property sector.<\p> Ameris Center, the Atlanta corporate hub for Ameris Bancorp, sold for $81 million this month, 10% less than its owner paid for it nine years ago. An affiliate of landlord Atlanta Property Group recently decided to part with it.<\p>

Part-time job listings soared during the Covid-19 pandemic and have yet to recede — a potential sign that both workers and employers see benefits in the arrangements. <\p> Beginning in early 2022, the share of part-time jobs posted on job-search engine Indeed grew 10% before leveling off in 2023. <\p>
MARTA agrees to $49M contract for Five Points revamp
MARTA is moving forward with the first phase of its Five Points renovation, even as local leaders and mobility advocates seek to halt the $230 million project.<\p> Skanska signed an initial $49 million contract with the transit agency to take apart the 1970s-era canopy hanging over the Downtown rail hub and demolish the station's existing plaza, according to a news release Tuesday from the Stockholm-based construction company. The current infrastructure would be replaced with a new canopy, public space, amenities and a reconnected Broad Street for pedestrians.<\p>
Rolex plans Atlanta store expansion
Rolex Boutique is expanding at Lenox Square, according to a building permit filed with the City of Atlanta.<\p> The scope includes a new storefront system; partitions; finishes; millwork; display fixtures; and associated mechanical, electrical and plumbing work, according to the permit.<\p>
YWCA CEO: Revitalized community anchor to open in 2025 (Podcast)

It has been closed for more than a decade. <\p> Now, the YWCA of Greater Atlanta is raising funds to renovate the building and expand programming for residents on Atlanta’s Westside. <\p>
Microsoft seeks $75M tax break for Fulton data center
Microsoft's data center footprint in metro Atlanta continues to expand. <\p> The company confirmed to Atlanta Business Chronicle that it is the developer seeking a $75 million tax break over 10 years in Fulton County for a data center in Union City. <\p>
City leaders to rally against MARTA's Five Points plan
A group of elected officials, civic leaders and mobility advocates are joining together to put pressure on MARTA to halt its Five Points renovation.<\p> Atlanta City Council President Doug Shipman, Councilmember Jason Dozier and Central Atlanta Progress/Atlanta Downtown Improvement District President AJ Robinson are a few of the project's opponents who plan to stage a rally at the Five Points station's Peachtree Street entrance on Tuesday at 12:30 p.m.<\p>
