A fried chicken chain with four locations in metro Atlanta appears to be working on a new outpost in the Summerhill neighborhood.

Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken is proposed for 572 Hank Aaron Dr SE, according to a recent building permit application with the city. The 2,489-square-foot space would be located at the new Publix-anchored development south of Downtown Atlanta that also features a now-open CAVA and Jersey Mike’s .

The scope of work includes the installation of new walls, finishes and interior fixtures, as well as a complete, full-service kitchen, according to the application. HVAC, lighting, plumbing and electrical work is also needed.

Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken began decades ago in Tennessee, originally founded in the small town of Mason. It now has about 40 locations across the U.S., including four in Georgia – Atlanta, Chamblee, Kennesaw and Sandy Springs.

The menu includes dark and white chicken thighs, wings, breasts and tenders. In addition to the signature chicken, the menu offers Southern sides like baked beans, coleslaw, potato salad, fried okra and more.

The brand remains tight-lipped about the family recipe used for the famed fried chicken.

“Before you ask, no, you cannot have the recipe,” reads the website. “As Gus once quipped, ‘This is a dead man’s recipe [and] I ain’t telling.'”
