A chef-driven Mexican restaurant is opening its first Georgia location at Spring Quarter , a new mixed-use development in Midtown.

This will be the eighth location overall for Habaneros , which incorporates the distinctive flavors of Mexico City into its extensive menu with a contemporary twist.

Founded in Louisiana, Habaneros is inspired by the urban eateries found in Mexico City. The menu includes entrees, sides, desserts and handcrafted cocktails, including the fan-favorite Smoked Margarita and best-selling Chingona Margarita. Habaneros has been voted Best Mexican Restaurant for five years in a row in Louisiana.

“Having spent several years as an Atlanta resident, I have seen Midtown flourish into a well-developed hub for businesses, residences and restaurants, and I knew we would one day bring Habaneros here,” said Omar Lugo , CEO and creator of Habaneros. “We pride ourselves on changing how Americans view Mexican food while combining fine dining at an agreeable price. Our location at Spring Quarter will allow us to provide a convenient spot for workday lunches and happy hours, as well as a fantastic dinner experience.”

Habaneros will open at Sora , Spring Quarter’s 370-unit luxury residential tower, in summer 2025. The 3,900-square-foot space will feature an expansive patio with a large indoor-outdoor bar.

The new location will keep the foundation of its original menu while also incorporating new dishes from current Head Chef Oscar Sandoval and new chef talent from a Michelin-star restaurant in New York specializing in Latin American cuisine.

“Habaneros is a seamless extension of our retail leasing strategy at Spring Quarter as we continue to seek quality, chef-driven restaurants that will create a new dining destination for Midtown,” said Dotan Zuckerman , head of retail and activation for Portman . “We are proud to bring this concept to Atlanta and know Spring Quarter visitors will appreciate the creative menu offerings. Habaneros’ remarkable take on traditional Mexican cuisine will be a valuable addition to Atlanta’s diverse food scene.”

A modern Japanese concept from Chef Fuyuhiko Ito will open this fall at 1020 Spring, the Class-A office tower at Spring Quarter. Pepper Boxing, an Atlanta-based cardio boxing class, recently opened on the ground floor of Sora. Portman has also tapped Steve Palmer, founder of The Indigo Road Hospitality Group, to create a day-to-night dining experience in all 24,000 square feet of the reimagined historic H.M. Patterson Home and Gardens.

Portman is set to complete Spring Quarter in Q3 2024.
