Arches Brewing to move to East Point, partner with Cultured South

Since 2016, Arches has been serving brews like Unseasonal Lager and Mexican Empire in its Hapeville brewery, but the time has come to relocate. By early fall, Arches hopes to be slinging its beers closer to its original home, this time as part of a bigger operation at Atlanta Utility Works in East Point.

Arches has partnered with Melanie Wade Styles of Cultured South and Golda Kombucha to create a one-stop taproom offering beer, wine, cocktails, kombucha, and hard kombucha, as well as vegan burgers and hearty pub sandwiches. The site, an abandoned factory featured on Ozark and Stranger Things , is large enough for Arches to brew their beer, Styles to create kombucha and fermented foods, and visitors to eat, drink, and be merry. It even includes an event space. Guests will be able to order from the bar, and all food and drinks will be brought to their table.

“We have common interests and are trying to simplify the experience for the guest,” Adams says.

For its part, Arches’ operation is going from 1,800 square feet to 5,000 square feet. All its operations will move to the new space, including brewing and canning. Its staff will operate the bar, with about 12 beers on tap: five or six “core” beers (including Moment in Time and Mexican Empire), plus rotating seasonal brews such as Mystik Bock. Four- and six-packs of beer will be available for purchase as well.

“It has a similar vibe to Arches in Hapeville but more industrial with big, open space and 50-60-foot ceilings in the center,” Adams says.

There will be two frozen drinks, and all cocktails will be made using syrups and tinctures from herbs grown onsite. ( A Sip of Paradise community garden is a partner in the property.)

Wines will be limited to about eight, primarily from small, family-owned vineyards. They will be sold by the glass and the bottle. Golda Kombucha and GrandMother—the “hard” version—will fill another 10-12 taps. Look for “Sage Advice,” a grapefruit-sage flavor, as well as “Early Greys,” an Earl Grey GrandMother varietal.

Guests can indulge inside at high-top tables or lounge seating, as well as outdoors, which sports a working farm vibe with goats and chickens. The GAB’S (Good as Burgers) vegan burger food truck will be on site daily, and Tom Kellum (formerly of the defunct Elliott Street Deli & Pub ) will oversee the non-vegan fare. Expect a reuben, fermented salsa trio, charcuterie board, and gourmet hot dogs dubbed “Cultured Dogs,” among other sandwiches and sharables.

“I’m excited for Atlantans to come see all we have to offer,” Styles says.
