Summer has officially begun. Slather on the sunscreen, grab a bottle of water and go make memories.
Why it matters: The calendar is packed with things to do, and we have no excuse. Science has invented fans you can wear around your neck to combat the heat.
Zoom in: We've pulled some of the best 2024 summer events, plus plenty of evergreen ideas, to keep you busy. Here are a few standouts.
🎸Catch Willie Nelson, Bob Dylan, Robert Plant and Alison Krauss at Ameris Bank Amphitheatre. ( June 21 )
🖼️ Attend the Atlanta Contemporary's Art Party and tour artist studios. ( June 22 )
🚴 Tighten your helmet and join hundreds of bicyclists at Critical Mass for a leaderless ride around the city. ( Last Friday of every month )
🦦 Bring your tube (or rent one) and float the Chattahoochee River. Powers Island's new put-in point makes a float with friends to Paces Mill easier.
🏃 Tie your shoes and hit the street for the AJC Peachtree Road Race. (July 4)
⚾️ Watch the Braves play the Phillies for a three-game stretch at Truist Park. ( July 5–7, Aug. 20–22 )
🫐 Pick blueberries at Byne Blueberry, one of the Southeast's oldest organic farms for the delicious little things. You could also build an entire road trip centered on Georgia peach farms .
🍅 Buy a tomato from one of Atlanta's many farmers markets and make yourself the best tomato sandwich you've ever had. Slice, salt and pepper, slather on the Duke's mayo.
🍦 Fill up a Big Softie cone with olive oil and sea salt ice cream, topped with honeycomb or cornflake streusel.
😎 Spend an afternoon on one of the following patios: Muchacho, Boggs Social and Supply, Estoria.
🥾 Hike Arabia Mountain with an interpretive naturalist ( Aug. 18 ) or tour the nearby AWARE Wildlife Center, a nonprofit helping heal injured animals. ( Every Saturday and Sunday )
Visit the Trappist monks at the Monastery of the Holy Spirit in Conyers and then catch a sunset from the monadnock we know and love.
🎉 Soak up the last mellow neighborhood festival of the season at the Grant Park Conservancy's Summer Shade Festival. ( Aug. 24–25 )
🪩 Chill out at House in the Park, the annual community party celebrating DJs spinning house music at Grant Park. ( Date TBD )
