The Atlanta Braves have lost one of their lefty arms for the season to Tommy John surgery.

Atlanta announced on Monday that 29-year-old Ray Kerr is done for the year. The Braves placed Kerr on the 15-day injured list while Atlanta's manager, Brian Snitker, provided deeper insight into Kerr's injury.

“It’s bad because he was getting a good opportunity here and he had impressed a lot of people,” Snitker said, according to a report from MLB.com's Joe Harris. “And he'll be back stronger than ever. I mean, that's the thing. Those guys, they get that tuneup like that, they end up, you know, extending their careers a lot of the time.”

Kerr is suffering from a left elbow UCL ailment that he began to complain about shortly after being sent down to Triple-A Gwinnett Stripers on June 15.

He made two starts and eight additional appearances for the Braves this season, going 1-2 with 27 strikeouts and a 5.64 ERA in 22 1/3 innings pitched.

Kerr made his Major League Baseball debut for the San Diego Padres on April 24, 2022. He was traded to Atlanta on December 13, 2023, and was optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett at the start of this season.
