Other the weekend, the Atlanta Hawks made a move which was anticipated as they traded Dejounte Murray to the New Orleans Pelicans in exchange for Larry Nance Jr., E.J. Liddell and Dyson Daniels, as well as two first round picks, 2025 and 2027.

The trade of Murray came just two days after the Atlanta Hawks selected Zaccharie Risacher with the number one overall pick in Wednesday’s NBA Draft, solidifying that Atlanta was ready to concede that their attempt to put together a dynamic backcourt with Murray and Trae Young, unfortunately was not working as planned.

On Monday, The Morning Shift, with Tiffany Blackmon and Mike Johnson, were joined by Brad Rowland of Locked On Hawks Podcast to discuss the Hawks trade of Murray and how he would ‘grade’ the package of players and first round picks Atlanta received in return.

“I think it’s a pretty good one for the Hawks but not a grand slam,” Rowland told Blackmon and Johnson explaining that he does understand why some may view the return package as one that is overwhelming. “There isn’t that huge name coming back and of course the Hawks gave up a lot to get Dejounte Murray two years ago,” Rowland added.

Rowland would note that the two first round picks that the Hawks received are “considerable value” in which they could potentially use in a trade now or in the future and the addition of Daniels may benefit the Hawks defensively.
