Lidl Grocery Store Planned for The Interlock

More details are coming into focus about a long-awaited grocery store coming to West Midtown.

Lidl appears to be in the works at The Interlock , according to a recent building permit application with the City of Atlanta. The estimated cost of construction on the 30,892-square-foot store is $4 million, according to the application.

Lidl offers produce, meats and seafood, imported cheeses, European pastries, household products and more at low prices. The grocery store began in Germany in 1973 and didn’t expand to the U.S. until 2017, with the first U.S. stores opening in Virginia. There are now more than 150 Lidl stores across the East Coast.

There are 17 existing locations in Georgia, and a new location is in the early stages in Norcross .

The Interlock is a multiphase mixed-use destination in West Midtown that features a mix of restaurants, bars, entertainment concepts, residential space and the Bellyard Hotel.

Publix was originally the grocery tenant set to join the development, announced back in 2021 , but now the development is going in a different direction. The website for SJC Ventures , an Atlanta-based developer behind The Interlock project, still indicates that a “best in class grocer” will anchor the destination. Lidl has not been named yet.
