Finally, a holiday for the dimpled few and the people who love them

Graceful Grady is a man on a mission to celebrate your cheeks.

Why it matters: The Atlantan created National Dimples Day , a celebration of the subtle dents on our cheeks, chins and lower backs, a recognized event. Now he's campaigning to help it catch on among the public.

How it works: Celebrated every July 9, the holiday creates a safe space for the dimpled few and the people who love them, Grady, the founder and "chief dimples officer," told Axios.

Catch up quick: A few years ago, Grady — he legally changed his first name decades ago to Graceful, his high school football nickname, he says — marveled how everything from home warranties ( Feb. 10 ) to buttermilk biscuits ( May 14 ) has its own holiday. What about dimples?

    • In 2022, he worked with National Day Calendar, a company that maintains a database of commemorative holidays, weeks and months, to register it as a holiday .

The intrigue: The dimples on the lower back are dimples of Apollo (for men) and dimples of Venus (for women).

What's next: Grady is a fount of dimple-related puns and plans; he wants to host a Dimples for All Festival next year and the Dimple Open golf tournament (the divots on the balls are called dimples) in the next few years.

    • The gold ring: making National Dimples Day a nationally recognized paid day off for everyone.

Yes, and: Holidays are all about merchandise, and Grady has scores of swag playing off dimples.

The bottom line: A person can dream. What's yours?
