Alex Sarr's reported stance had no impact on Hawks' decision on draft night; Jared Greenberg

Now that the NBA draft is in the rearview mirror, the Atlanta Hawks will get to see their No. 1 overall draft pick, Zaccharie Risacher, in action in Las Vegas for the squad's first NBA Summer League game versus the Washington Wizards on Friday.

Whether or not the Hawks selected the best player out of the 2024 draft class, NBA reporter Jared Greenberg explained that regardless of what anyone may think, the Hawks knew enough to make the right decision for themselves.

“The Hawks' front office knows so much more than we do," said Greenberg. "Not only with the interviews that they were able to have with some of the guys, the workouts they were able to watch, they’re obviously watching way more tape, they’re flying overseas, they’ve got scouts that they’re relying on that we don’t have."

Greenberg’s comments came in response as Steak and Sandra discussed how Atlanta settled on the 6-foot-9 rookie from France and whether Alex Sarr reportedly expressing no interest in wanting to be drafted by the Hawks played a role in their decision.

"It was an unenviable position that Landry Fields and company were in this year,” said Greenberg, who believes that Sarr’s reported stance had no impact on Atlanta’s draft choice.

“If the Hawks felt like Alex Sarr was the No. 1 pick and the best option for them, regardless of whether he would have worked out for them or not, they would have taken him,” Greenberg said.
