Fill your belly and cars at V12, Atlanta's new sports bar

What happens when you combine hip-hop , cars, wings and liquor under one roof, atop a gas station in Downtown Atlanta?

Why it matters: Since opening in early May, this joint is becoming a must-visit spot for celebs.

Zoom in: V12 is a collaboration between Vinny and Kelan Watson, the Atlanta siblings behind the Sovereign Sweets dessert shop and cocktail bar in Buckhead.

    • One of the bar's investors is Quavo, one-third of the Atlanta rap trio Migos .

The intrigue: Did we mention V12 sits atop a BP gas station at 610 Spring St. NW?

    • Yep, right beside the Tim Horton drive-thru and the smoking paraphernalia shop Smoke World Co.

Context: V12 is named after an engine found in high-end cars, including Aston Martins, Lamborghinis, and many other hot rods I couldn't afford in this lifetime.

    • Several menu items are named after cars.

What we ordered: I had baked chicken, a "Blackberry Bugatti" cocktail, and a hookah with mint-flavored shisha. Thomas and Kristal had the bar's signature burgers.

The verdict: My chicken, mashed potatoes and veggies were tasty, but the serving portion was kinda small. Kristal said the burger was filling, and Thomas also enjoyed his plant-based burger.

    • My drink was pleasantly strong. My colleagues graciously gave me their leftover fries to keep me grounded.

The vibe: The employees were kind, and the 7,500 square foot club seats anywhere from 189 to 250 people. The contemporary bottle club furniture feels sleek and comfortable. If you're a celeb, you have two VIP rooms, and a patio overlooking the gas station and Midtown.

    • There weren't many customers when we stopped by last Thursday. I suspect it's because people were just leaving work at that point. We were told Fridays and Saturdays are the busiest days for V12.
    • Prior to 9pm, V12 played soft R&B that didn't overshadow the sounds of the WNBA game on the wide-screen TVs. After, the the crowd started to build up and rap took over.

Follow the money: If you're not interested in the $25 parking valet, consider transit or a ride-share service.

If you go: Expect high-end scenery paired with a cityscape view, perfect for socializing and people watching if that's your vibe.

Stop by: V12 is open Tuesday through Saturday from 5pm to 3am, and Sunday from 5pm to midnight.
