The Atlanta Falcons are just a little over a week away from reporting to Training Camp, and as we creep closer and closer to the start of camp we are starting to get more and more of an idea of what this Zac Robinson offense will look like, and what roles some of the offensive skill players will play in this Falcons’ offense. Earlier today The Morning Shift reacted to the Falcons Offensive Coordinator telling Atlanta Falcons beat reporter for the Atlanta Journal Constitution D. Orlando Ledbetter that Kyle Pitts will play tight end and receiver this season.

“He’s learning basically two different positions,” Falcons offensive coordinator Zac Robinson told Ledbetter. “There’s some tight end and there’s some receiver. So, he’s got a lot on his plate. He’s handled it really well. I’m just excited to see him continue to get more comfortable in the system.”

While this doesn’t come as a surprise to The Morning Shift crew they are excited to hear this news, and Beau Morgan talks about how he recalls Kyle Pitts playing a lot of receiver in his rookie season when he had Matt Ryan as his quarterback, so playing both tight end and receiver isn’t something that will be new to him.

“I think he played a lot of receiver in the first year under Arthur Smith, so he’s not unfamiliar. I think it’s just the offense, and it’s the new offense and some of the things they’re going to want to do. I think they’re going to try to feature in a multitude of ways with routes and I do see them working back in you know the little shallow drags where you kind of get him in space and let him try to turn up field and honestly just go.” Beau said.

D-Led joined The Morning Shift later on in the show as well and gave his own insight on what Zac Robinson told him about Pitts playing multiple positions this season.

“Yea I think they like his versatility and the flexibility to go outside and create mismatches. You know they’ve seen how teams have tried to double team him and defend him, and it’s going to be incumbent on the new offensive coordinator to free him up. You know they gotta, you know, get him going in the passing game and if they have to move him outside to do it they’re getting prepared to do so.” Ledbetter said.

The Falcons third-year tight end nearly broke Mike Ditka’s record for receiving yards by a rookie tight end back in 2021, but Pitts’ production dropped off after the trade of Matt Ryan and a rash of injuries, including season-ending knee surgery in 2022, so now that Kyle Pitts seems to be 100% healthy, has 100% trust in his knee again, and will have better quarterback play this season than he has the last two seasons the 2024-25 season could be a breakout year for the former fourth overall pick.
