1. Oakwood Forest School opens in Dunwoody Nature Center
🐞 A new nature-based school will open this fall at the Dunwoody Nature Center, a 22-acre park and education center located off Roberts Drive.
An announcement released July 15 by the DNC said the Oakwood Forest School emphasizes “outdoor learning and exploration, encouraging children to connect with nature through play and discovery.”
“The seasons are our lesson plans and the natural environment is our teacher,” Holly Loscavio, Dunwoody Nature Center’s Program Director, said. “By taking away the four walls of a traditional classroom setting, students are able to be more independent, and given the opportunity to thrive. Kids go home every day dirty, tired, and happy, and we think that’s a beautiful thing.”

3. Local filmmaker grapples with AI in the industry
📽️ A couple of years ago, Laila Harrison wasn’t even thinking about AI. But in May, “Where the Mind Goes” – billed as an immersive AI video installation, created by Harrison – debuted at Eyedrum.
The use of artificial intelligence in art and filmmaking is an ongoing conversation, especially since last year’s writers and actors strikes , and one that still evolves daily. The strikes centered around the very real fear that studios could use tools like Chat GPT, Midjourney, or the upcoming text-to-video generator, Sora, to replace human workers, as well as concerns about actors’ control over their likenesses and when they’re used.
It was around this time that Harrison also started to consider how AI might affect the film industry and her role within it moving forward.
