Al Slaton, 26, of Atlanta, and Shawn Shannon, 26, of Lithonia, are accused of stealing three pairs of sunglasses, valued at $1,647, from Sunglass Hut and one pair of Air Jordan shoes, valued at $200, from Foot Locker at Cumberland Mall, on July 11 at 7:30 p.m., according to arrest warrants from the Cobb County Police Department.

When police attempted to conduct a traffic stop and box in their vehicle as it left the mall, Slaton put the car in reverse and went around the officer’s patrol car. The officer attempted a PIT maneuver, causing major damage to the rear of the car, but Slaton continued driving and fled from police at speeds over 100 mph and weaving in between heavy traffic on I-285 southbound. The officer disengaged the pursuit due to the dangerous conditions to the public, according to the warrants.

Slaton is charged with driving – fleeing/attempting to elude; theft by shoplifting – greater than $500; and theft by shoplifting – less than $500. Shannon is charged with theft by shoplifting – greater than $500; and theft by shoplifting – less than $500. Both men were arrested on July 11 at 9 p.m. and booked into the Cobb County Adult Detention Center, according to jail records.

Slaton was released on a $10,000 bond. Shannon was released on a $3,500 bond.
