New North Druid Hills Road bridge set to open at end of July

Construction on North Druid Hills Road continues, as Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta prepares to open in September.

The first leg of construction is the replacement of the bridge over North Fork Peachtree Creek connecting North Druid Hills Road to Buford Highway. Anticipated to take 90 days, the Georgia Department of Transportation reports show the bridge is on track to reopen at the end of July.

This week, the bridge barrier has been poured and the deck grinding and grooving has been scheduled. Asphalt paving of the bridge has begun, according to the GDOT update.

The new North Fork Peachtree Creek bridge will be better equipped for increasing traffic levels and safer for pedestrians.

In late April, GDOT closed the bridge and established a detour route. The entire project includes realigning Executive Park Drive and an entrance to the new Children’s Healthcare hospital, constructing an additional bridge over I-85, building out a displaced left turn lane, and constructing a braided ramp from the I-85 northbound off-ramp to the access road.

Drivers are advised to expect delays and reduce their speed while traveling through work zones. Real-time information on traffic conditions can be found online  www. 511ga.org , or on the Georgia 511 app. Project information is available at https://i85-sr42-interchange-0016054-gdot.hub.arcgis.com/ .
