Can Yellow Jackets build on breakout season on offense?

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets are looking to build on a strong 2023 campaign that saw the program win its first bowl since 2016. One of the key cogs in that success was quarterback Haynes King, who will return to lead the Jackets, and he will be a major reason why the program could find success this season.

The Texas A&M transfer threw for 2,842 yards and 27 touchdowns while adding another 737 yards and 10 touchdowns on the ground in his first season under center, but Brent Key is confident that he can take that next step in 2024.

"[King] will be able to take that next step here at Georgia Tech," Key told Dukes and Bell in an interview on Monday during ACC Media Days that the Steakhouse listened back to. "I'm expecting a huge year for him [and] expecting a lot of success. I wouldn't be surprised to see him on a lot of lists by the end of the year."

If he could cut down on the turnovers (16 interceptions in 2023), then the Yellow Jackets could see their prospects build on a successful first season.

"I think his biggest benefit heading into year two is going to be Buster Faulkner, the offensive coordinator and play-caller for Georgia Tech," Drew Butler said in his reaction to the audio we heard from Key. "I keep throwing flowers at this guy, and it's for a good reason. Haynes King is going to be way more comfortable walking into year two at Georgia Tech with the same offensive staff [and the same weapons]."

In addition to his primary play-caller, the dual-threat quarterback returns his two leading wide receivers Malik Rutherford and Freshman All-American Eric Singleton, a strong offensive line, and a 1,000-yard rusher in Jamal Haynes.

If King can build on his breakout season in 2023, the sky could be the limit for the Yellow Jacket offense in 2024.
