Greg McElroy Names Big Program With 'Brutal' College Football Schedule

College football analyst Greg McElroy recently reviewed the current state of the ACC heading into the 2024-25 season. The former NFL quarterback believes one team, Georgia Tech, has a talented roster, but its schedule is "brutal."

McElroy explained that Georgia Tech will have an improved team from their previous 7-6 season, but they'll have a major challenge in facing some of the top teams in the nation.

"I think the schedule's brutal," McElroy said. "You have six of the top teams in the ACC. You also pick up Georgia, and you have Notre Dame. The schedule is brutal. On paper, from a personnel standpoint, Georgia Tech should be very, very dangerous. We already said that when they're an underdog, they're extremely dangerous. The problem is, they're going to be an underdog a lot."

He mentioned that Georgia Tech will have six of their top seven receivers return, which should help dual-threat quarterback Haynes King take another step in his second season with the Yellow Jackets.

Georgia Tech will start the season in Dublin, Ireland, on Aug. 24, set to face the defending ACC champion Florida State Seminoles.

They'll have a cushioned stretch following that matchup, competing against teams like Georgia State and VMI.

Following those contests, the Yellow Jackets are in for a rocky road. They have a couple of top-level ACC games scheduled, like matchups against Louisville, North Carolina State, Notre Dame, and Miami.

The Yellow Jackets secured their first bowl game win since 2018 last season, so they're headed in the right direction under head coach Brent Key. However, their "brutal" schedule will have them competing against the top three teams in the ACC from the 2023-24 season: FSU, Lousiville, and NC State.
