A missing Georgia mother was found dead inside an abandoned car at a commuter rail parking lot, police said, two years after her 13-year-old son was shot to death in an unsolved murder.
Channell Crosby, 35, had been reported missing by her family on July 14, according to Atlanta police. She had been bound for a visit to Macon, her family said. Crosby's body was found five days later after authorities were alerted to a "foul-smelling" car in the lot outside a Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority station, police said last week.
Investigators are seeking the public's help in determining what happened to the woman, who has three children at home, police said.
Channell Crosby had tirelessly fought for justice for her son, Jamiren Crosby, 13, whose body was discovered behind a townhouse in 2022 after she had reported him missing, her family said. That same year, she had also lost her brother,Darrio "Polo" Giles, to gun violence, authorities said.
Both cases remain open and no one has been arrested in connection with the killings, police said.
The mother told WSB-TV last year that she had started the Crosby Organization to tackle issues including gun violence and police brutality by encouraging community service. "We went around painting shelters, donating to children’s shelters and women shelters," she told the station in June 2023.
On Thursday, the Atlanta Police Department told Inside Edition Digital there was no new information on the investigation into Chanell Crosby's death.
"The case is still open and active as the investigation continues. There are no further updates to release at this time," the department's public information officer wrote in an email.
A cause of death has not been released by authorities.
