A longtime shoe store in Atlanta has plans to move – but it won’t be taking those steps yet.

Friedman’s Shoes is slated to relocate amid the purchase of the building by a South Downtown investment group. And the journey won’t be a far distance; the shoe store will eventually move to a renovated storefront down the street, Atlanta Business Chronicle first reported .

The store is likely to remain where it is for up to a year, co-owner Brett Teilhaber told What Now Atlanta .

Friedman’s Shoes has been located at the space on Mitchell Street since 1929. The family-owned footwear store is beloved by athletes and known for its plus-size shoes (as evidenced by the name of the store’s website: largefeet.com). They sell shoes for both men and women, including boots, loafers, sandals, sneakers and more. Sizes range from 7 to 22 for men and 7 to 14 for women.

The shop was featured on ESPN’s documentary series 30 for 30 . Among the athletes who have been customers of the store: Shaquille O’Neal , Kobe Bryant and Charles Barkley .

The historic building was purchased by Jon Birdsong and David Cummings , entrepreneurs who have teamed up to purchase and redevelop several South Downtown properties. Records show the group paid $7.5 million for the building.

Dry-cleaning business Atlanta Cleaners is also located at the building. The future of that business is currently undetermined, according to Atlanta Business Chronicle.
