Braves star mentioned as early free agent option for rival NL club

The Atlanta Braves are in a great spot right now but could look a little different in 2025.

Atlanta boasts one of the deepest rosters in baseball and it has led to playoff runs in recent years and one World Series title. The Braves have one of the best cores in baseball but won't be able to hold on to everyone as they get more expensive.

One player who will be a free agent at the end of the season is ace Max Fried. He has developed into a true star as a member of the Braves and has two All-Star nods and three Gold Gloves under his belt since making his big league debut in 2017.

He likely will be a hot commodity on the open market and Bleacher Report's Zachary Rymer mentioned the San Francisco Giants as a possible landing spot in his "way-too-early" free agent rankings.

"If Carlos Rodón's six-year, $162 million deal with the (New York Yankees) is the model for talented yet not always healthy lefties, then so be it. That should be Fried's target," Rymer said. "Freddie Freeman's departure is a warning to Atlanta fans not to put too much hope in a reunion on the open market. Any number of usual-suspect big spenders could get in on Fried, including the Yankees, (Los Angeles Dodgers), Giants, and (Boston Red Sox)."

The Braves certainly would love to keep Fried and very well may. But, other teams definitely would be interested and it would be tough to see him stay in the National League with the Giants if he were to leave Atlanta.
