In this old house-turned-restaurant, you’ll wind through rooms full of chatty diners as you follow the host to your table. It’s a fitting scene since Buttermilk’s big-portioned, homestyle breakfast plates make us feel like we’re eating at auntie's place for some random family function. Ask for a seat on the patio, and start off with an order of flaky, moist biscuits served with housemade jams. And aside from the just-OK shrimp and grits, which needs a little more salt and soul, everything else on the Southern breakfast and lunch menu is something we’d draft to our brunch all-star team. Open six days a week, the Roswell Road staple is a solid option whenever you’re craving a quality breakfast. Just grab a reservation because this place gets packed on weekends.

Food Rundown
Biscuit Basket
Wait staff give a proud smirk whenever they drop off a basket of these giant biscuits. It’s as if they know you’re gonna love it. And you will. They’re fluffy, dense without being dry, and served hot, so your table butter will spread with no resistance. They also come with a smooth blueberry-basil jam and sweet red pepper jelly.
Cinnamon Roll
In addition to the biscuits, the gooey cinnamon roll is another excellent way to start your meal here. There is only one per order, but it’s as big as the saucer it's served on, so there’s plenty to share.
Fried Green Tomatoes
This is one of the best fried green tomatoes in the city. The tomato itself is mildly pickled, making it tangy and tender. Then it’s fried in a thick, well-seasoned cornmeal batter, making it super crunchy. It’s so good, the accompanying ranch dip may go untouched.
Shrimp & Grits
The grits are as plain as they come. The shrimp, bacon, roasted tomato, onion, and pepper mixture on top is also on the blander side. Skip this.
