New district realignments released by UIL

Every two years the University Interscholastic League (UIL) realignment process can be an exciting time for fans, players and coaches or it can be a total nightmare travel-wise.

On Wednesday, Feb. 1, the UIL released the new district realignments for football, basketball and volleyball for years 20242026.

    Atlanta

Atlanta’s football district from the past two years changed slightly with this new alignment as Liberty-Eylau dropped down a division from 4A-DII.

The Rabbits will still face off against Gladewater, Sabine, Tatum, White Oak and Jefferson in Class 3A, Division 1, District 8 in Region 2.

As far as basketball (3A, District 14, Region 2) and volleyball (3A, District 14, Region 2) go the Rabbits/Lady Rabbits will still play: Queen City, DeKalb, Hooks, New Boston and Redwater. Paul Pewitt dropped to 2A and Liberty-Eylau took their place in this district after dropping down from 4A.

    Queen City

Queen City’s district foes differ quite a bit from the past two years as both Waskom and Elysian Fields dropped to 2A and both Harmony and New Diana are in other 3A districts. The Bulldogs will play Hughes Springs, DeKalb, Hooks, New Boston, Redwater and Daingerfield in what is now 3A, Division 2, District 10 in Region 3.

The Bulldogs/Lady Bulldogs will play basketball (3A, District 14, Region 2) and volleyball (3A, District 14, Region 2) against familiar foes in Atlanta, DeKalb, Hooks, New Boston and Redwater. Paul Pewitt dropped to 2A and Liberty-Eylau took their place in this district after dropping down from 4A.

    Linden-Kildare

Linden-Kildare has been all over the map with the past few UIL shakeups, but the Tigers will play the same schedule with the only addition being Celeste.

Celeste was part of District 8 for the past two seasons. Celeste will be a hop in travel for the Tigers as the city rests northwest of Greenville on Highway 69.

The Tigers have a couple of close district opponents as they will play Maud and James Bowie, but will make long trips to Celeste, Clarksville, Cumby and Detroit in 2A, Division 2, District 9 in Region 3.

In basketball (2A, District 21, Region 3) L-K will play Big Sandy, Union Grove, Harleton, Hawkins, McLeod and Ore City.

In volleyball (2A, District 18, Region 3) L-K will now play Big Sandy, Union Grove, Hawkins, Paul Pewitt and Ore City.

    Bloomburg

Bloomburg’s basketball district lineup nearly stays the same as the school will play Avery, Avinger, Union Hill, Saltillo and Sulphur Bluff in 1A, District 20 in Region 3. Yantis dropped out of the district.

    McLeod

McLeod will play the same basketball district lineup which consists of Linden-Kildare, Big Sandy, Union Grove, Harleton, Hawkins and Ore City in 2A, District 21, Region 3.
