    Atlanta Rabbits

    Atlanta’s baseball squad took on Mineola in the first round of the playoffs last week.

    The Rabbits won a district championship after going on an 11-game win streak to end the regular season and added two more consecutive wins after sweeping Mineola and claiming a Bi-District title as well.

    To date the Rabbs have won 13 consecutive games and 16-of-their-last-18 contests.

    Game One

    Atlanta edged out a 6-4 win over the Yellowjackets and scored in every inning but two.

    Eli Stevens scattered five hits over six innings with five strikeouts and Will Woodruff had one strikeout as he pitched an inning of relief.

    Brady Partain hit an RBI double, Woodruff added a single, Peyton Harrison had two hits, Peyton Gaston added a hit with three RBIs and both Cason Whatley and Evan Mitchell hit RBI singles.

    Game Two

    The Rabbs topped Mineola 11-8 in game two as they scored nine of those runs by inning five.

    Eli Dryden gave up four hits and sat down two, Easton Whatley scattered four hits and sat down one and Will Woodruff gave up three hits and sat down three batters.

    Easton Owens hit a triple and drove in two runs, Eli Mitchell was 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI, Peyton Harrison was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, Jaden Riley was 2-for-3 with a double and two ribeyes, Peyton Gaston hit a double, Woodruff hit a single, Cason Whatley hit a single, Evan Mitchell hit a single and drove in two runs and Brady Partain hit an RBI single.

    Atlanta will play Elysian Fields in the Area round beginning at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 9, in Atlanta.

    Game two is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday, May 10, at Elysian Fields High School, and game three, if necessary, will take place at Carthage High School on Saturday, May 11. The time for that game is to be determined.

    Linden-Kildare Tigers Linden-Kildare’s baseball team played a tough North Hopkins team in the first round of the playoffs.

    The Tigers edged the Panthers 6-5 in game one but fell to North Hopkins 12-5 in game two. In the third and deciding game L-K pulled out a 7-4 win and won a Bi-District title in the process.

    Game One

    The game wasn’t as close as the score lets on as the Tigers had a 4-0 lead going into the final frame.

    North Hopkins had other ideas as they plated five runs in the top of the seventh to take a 5-4 lead.

    With two outs in the inning, Keegan Surratt reached base then stole second. Surratt scored the tying run on a Max Belford single.

    Maysen Lemmon hit a hard ground ball to third base and Belford scored the winning run on an error by North Hopkins’ third baseman.

    Lemmon was a beast from the mound as he gave up just three hits and struck out eight. Peyton Foreman pitched in relief.

    Foreman hit two doubles and drove in two runs, Hugh Tyson hit a triple, Surratt was 2-for-4 with an RBI, Belford had the RBI single, Lemmon hit a single and Logan Hankins hit an RBI single.

    Game Two

    The Tigers scored three runs in the first frame but the Panthers scored all 12 of its runs over five innings to take the 12-5 decision.

    Peyton Foreman, Hugh Tyson and Tylton Surratt combined for eight strikeouts from the hill.

    Foreman hit an RBI double, Keegan Surratt hit a single, Tylton Surratt was 2-for-4 with a ribbie, Logan Hankins added an RBI and Tyson added an RBI.

    Game Three

    In the third and decisive game three the Tigers scored six of its seven runs in the fourth inning while holding the Panthers to just four runs.

    Logan Hankins gave up just two hits and struck out four in relief of Hugh Tyson who scattered four hits over five innings and sat down a batter.

    Peyton Foreman hit an RBI triple, Keegan Surratt was 2-for-4 with a ribeye, Maysen Lemmon added a single, Tylton Surratt added an RBI single, Hankins was 2-for-3 with a ribbie, Ethan Churchman hit a single and Hugh Tyson added two RBIs.

    The Tigers will face Kerens in the Area round beginning at 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 9. Game two will take place at 4 p.m. on Friday, May 10, with game three to follow shortly after if necessary.

    All games will be played at Grand Saline High School.

    Queen City

    Queen City’s softball team played a tough county foe in Hughes Springs in the second round of the playoffs last week.

    The No. 4-ranked Lady Bulldogs (24-3, 12-0) entered the contest on a 13-game win streak with a District title and a Bi-District title in hand.

    Hughes Springs finished second in its district and was a very formidable opponent as QC pulled out two tough 1-0 wins over the Lady Mustangs.

    Game One

    The first contest was a pitching duel as Trinity Oden struck out eight batters and Hughes Springs’ pitcher struck out 15.

    QC scored a walkoff run in the bottom half of the seventh inning with two outs.

    Laurel Moore reached base on an error and Keeli Mainer walked. Moore scored the winning run on a hard-hit line drive single to left field off the bat of Paitynn Weeks.

    Weeks, Mainer and Brenna Turbeville all hit singles in the game.

    Game Two

    The second game was just like the first as Trinity Oden went toe-to-toe with Hughes Springs’ pitcher again.

    Oden pitched a 1-hit shutout with eight Ks and the Hughes Springs pitcher struck out 14.

    QC had chances to score as they recorded six hits in the game but it was the solo homerun by Oden which gave QC the Area championship in nine innings.

    Brenna Turbeville and Serenity Oden hit singles, Oden had the game-winning home run in extras and the Lady Bulldogs received singles from Mallori Stringer, Laurel Moore and Lauren Carrell.

    The Lady Bulldogs will take on Mineola in the third round with action starting at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 8. Game two will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 9, and game three, if necessary, will begin at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, May 10. All games will be played at Tatum High School.
