“We regret to announce the cancellation of the 2024 Visit Atlantic City Airshow due to a major act withdrawing from the Airshow,” the Greater Atlantic City Chamber, Visit Atlantic City and the South Jersey Transportation said in a joint statement Wednesday. “This decision was not made lightly, and we understand the disappointment it may cause. We extend our heartfelt thanks and gratitude to all who have supported this event over the past number of years.”
As NJBIZ reported in March, an 11th-hour injection of state funding saved the Airshow. The event had been in danger of cancellation due to inflation, other new costs and more. At the time, it appeared that everything was on track for the event to take flight Aug. 13-14.
That last-minute $300,000 in funding came via the South Jersey Transportation Authority. Atlantic City Mayor Marty Small Sr. played an integral role in facilitating the contribution.
“We’re sorry to hear the news the Airshow won’t be happening this summer,” Small told NJBIZ in a statement. “The Small administration stepped up to do everything that needed to be done to save the Airshow earlier this year but in the end, this is a situation beyond the city’s control.”
"I was disappointed to learn that the Atlantic City Airshow has been cancelled. The Airshow is a popular annual event that brings visitors to Atlantic City and generates business for South Jersey as a whole," Assemblyman Bill Moen, D-5th District, said in a statement. "I realize this was a difficult decision made by the event organizers, and I hope that the Airshow is able to return next year. As Chairman of the Assembly Tourism, Gaming and the Arts Committee, I will continue to work on legislation that supports tourism in Atlantic City, South Jersey, and throughout our state."
This decision was not made lightly, and we understand the disappointment it may cause.
