A global tech outage is having a widespread impact on South Jersey residents.

Airports, health systems and government agencies were among those reporting problems for consumers.

A regional health system, AtlantiCare, said it was "diligently working to restore all systems to full operation. We anticipate there will be delays in service, but our critical patient services are operation."

Virtua Health reported some "brief disruptions overnight" in its electronic health records system and MyChart patient portal, according to spokesman Daniel Moise.

The hospital system implemented backup systems and policies to enable outpatient and hospital services to continue safely, Moise said.

"While these issues are affecting convenience, such as delays in check-in and registration, the outage is not impacting essential patient care," hw said.

Airports cautioned travelers about possible problems with flights.

Passengers "should anticipate delays and cancellations today," said a tweet from Philadelphia International Airport.

"Please check with your airline for the latest flight status information before heading to the airport."

Atlantic City International Airport offered similar advice, with a notice at its website saying "flights in and out of ACY may be affected. Please check with your carrier for flight information.”

The Federal Aviation Administration said it was "closely monitoring" the issue as of just before 6 a.m.

Multiple airlines requested the administration's assistance with ground stops, it said.

Spirit Airlines, which flies out of Atlantic City International, said the outage has struck its reservations system and flight operations.

"Due to the outage, we are currently unable to rebook guests whose travel plans have been disrupted," it tweeted. "We will assist these guests as soon as possible when our vendor restores service."

Delta Air Lines said its flights "are paused as we work through a vendor technology issue. Any customers whose flights are impacted will be notified by Delta via the Fly Delta app and text message."

New Jersey activated its emergency operations center at 3 a.m. Friday in response to the outage, according to a statement from Gov. Phil Murphy.

"We are also engaging county and local governments, 911 call centers, and utilities to assess the impact and offer our assistance," Murphy said.

The state Motor Vehicle Commission announced service interruptions due to the nationwide outage.

Affected customers can reschedule online or will be offered a courtesy return pass, the MVC said.

Many organizations were able to return toward normalcy as the day went on.

American Air said it was able "to safely re-establish our operation," as of 5 a.m.

TD Bank, with headquarters in Cherry Hill, said "a majority of our systems, including online banking, have been restored. We continue to monitor all applications to limit further disruptions."

And Inspira, a South Jersey health system, said the outage had not affected its technology.

"We are, however, monitoring each of our systems as well as connecting with our partners to understand if they’ve been impacted — and potential implications to our system," Inspira said.

Outages have been related to CrowdStrike, a security firm, and Microsoft M365.

CrowdStrike CEO George Kurtz cited a defect in a single content update for Windows hosts.

The outage was not caused by a security incident or cyberattack, he said, and "a fix has been deployed."
