Fish Falls From Sky Onto New Jersey Couple’s Tesla

The windshield of a New Jersey couple's Tesla vehicle was recently smashed—by a fish that apparently fell from the sky.

Knewz.com has learned that the incident happened right outside the couple's home in Atlantic Highlands, notably located a mile away from the nearest water body.

The bizarre incident left the windshield of the car broken and covered in a mess of “fish scales and blood.”

The couple mentioned that they initially had no idea what had happened.

Cynthia Levine said that she heard their Tesla – which was parked in their driveway – honking frantically on Sunday, July 21, and came out of the house to investigate .

"The car started honking, it went crazy honking which we had never heard. I didn't know how to turn it off," she was quoted as saying.

She added that her husband, Jeff, was already outside in the yard and had heard a loud crash , "but ignored it."

It was then that the couple noticed the damage done to their Tesla, and were justifiably surprised when they realized what had caused it.

"We were like... look at this, and I said to him, it looks like fish scales and blood on the windshield," Cynthia said as she recounted the strange incident.

The brief "encounter" between the couple's Tesla and the "flying fish" was captured by a camera installed in the car, and the footage showed a small fish apparently crash-landing on the Tesla's windshield and bouncing off of it.

At first, the couple thought that this might be a deliberate human act and wondered if someone was after them.

However, they soon reached a more plausible theory about the peculiar incident.

The couple believes that the fish did, in fact, fall from the sky—more precisely, it fell off the mouth of a bird that was carrying it.

The couple's Atlantic Highlands home is located about a mile away from Raritan Bay, from where a bird could have picked up the fish and accidentally dropped it on their Tesla while flying over it.

Locals have confirmed to the news outlet ABC 7 that seeing birds flying with fish in their mouths is a quite common sight in the area.

Cynthia, however, believes he knows the exact bird that could have caused the odd incident.

"We also have an eagle's nest in our backyard… We think it was probably the eagle," she told the news outlet.

The Levines are expected to get their car back soon, with their windshield mended.

However, during their interview with ABC 7 , Jeff jokingly wanted to inform the birds in the area that the couple has reduced their insurance deductible on the Tesla, "so if any birds are listening, please don't drop it here because I'm covered now."

Notably, over a year ago, the Sayreville township of New Jersey was also subjected to a conundrum arising from a fish that fell off a bird's mouth, although the consequences of that incident were relatively more far-reaching.

The Sayreville Police Department posted an update in August 2023 that a fish had hit a transformer and knocked out power in the locality.

"This FISH destroyed the transformer! How did a FISH get up there??? We have a hypothesis. We are guessing a bird dropped it as it flew over," the announcement, which was posted on Facebook , read.

"Only in Sayreville folks only in Sayreville," the update added.
