Fish falls from sky and damages couple's Tesla in New Jersey driveway

A fish has apparently fallen from the sky and landed in a driveway in New Jersey , damaging a couple's car in the process.

The vehicle was parked in a driveway Atlantic Highlands on Sunday when the creature came crashing down. Cynthia and Jeff Levine didn't know anything had happened at first.

The bizarre incident, however, was caught on camera . Cynthia told 6ABC: "The car started honking, it went crazy honking which we had never heard. I didn't know how to turn it off.

"I went out and he was in the yard somewhere. He heard the crash and everything, but ignored it. We were like holy crap look at this, and I said to him, it looks like fish scales and blood on the windshield."

Jeff initially thought someone had hurled the fish at their car as a form of vandalism. The pair live a mile away from Raritan Bay - where the fish would have come from before it transitioned from sea to air.

It's common to see birds flying around with fish in their mouth, residents say. Cynthia said they also have an eagle's nest in their backyard, which leads them to think it was "probably the eagle" that was carrying the fish .

The Levines will get their Tesla back soon but issued some stark, and amusing, advice for any other water creatures: "I lowered my deductibles, so if any birds are listening, please don't drop it here because I'm covered now."
