The Atmore City Council Monday adopted a resolution on a proposal between the city and a Mobile TV station for advertising segments from July to December 2024 during its regular meeting.

The proposal is with Fox 10 News, and it’s a campaign to keep the city of Atmore in the spotlight, officials said.

Fox 10 officials said during the meeting that a QR code will be placed on elements of the campaign to allow the city to monitor the marketing aspect and how it’s working. The segments, which will air each month from July to December, will be between 10-30 seconds long, and will have a QR code attached. The November and December segments will be holiday-themed, and a live show will air Dec. 5, the same day as the annual lighting of the Christmas tree.

Fox 10 officials said the initiative for the live show in December is to drive people to Atmore during the holiday season.

Cost of the proposal is the same as the previous marketing project the city had with Fox 10, $25,000.

    In other business, the city:

    • approved the closure of Church Street right in front of Acapulco’s, from Roberts and Presley Streets this Sat., July 13, from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. for an event hosted by the Mexican restaurant.

During the public comments portion of the meeting, the council was asked about the first day of garbage pick up for the city’s new service.

City Economic Planner and Grants Writer Chris Walker said Monday was the first day of Waste Pro picking up residential garbage.

“There were some glitches with customers not getting carts, and hopefully we’ll have those ironed out within the next couple of days,” Walker said. “We’ve had a number of calls from people without carts or carts that didn’t have informational cards that were attached.”

Walker said work was done all day Monday, and will continue until everybody has a cart.

“From our standpoint, we were just trying to support their (Waste Pro) efforts and to make sure everbody gets a cart, and field any concerns they have,” he said.

Waste Pro Division Manager Jordan Scott said a truck was running carts to residents all day Monday.

“We’re getting the garbage done, and we were done by 2 p.m. (Monday),” Scott said. “We had one missed garbage today on a person who was exempt. It went smooth, and I think it will be smooth going forward.”

Scott guaranteed that residents’ garbage will be picked up, and those without carts will receive one.
