UWG alumna, leader appointed to Georgia Council for the Arts
An alumna and leader at the University of West Georgia has been appointed to the Georgia Council for the Arts, Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp announced earlier this week. Brandy Barker ’08, currently serving as UWG’s chief creative officer and assistant vice president for University Advancement, is a practiced arts leader with dynamic career spanning both academia and the creative industry. With this appointment, she will support the cultivation and growth of vibrant, thriving Georgia communities through the arts.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - A Tallahassee man will serve three years behind bars after a deadly shooting on the FAMU basketball courts in November 2022. Davhon Young Jr. was hoping for a sentence of time served in exchange for his cooperation, but the judge sentenced him to three years in prison as an accessory. Young drove Chedderick Thomas to the basketball courts on the day of the shooting, where Thomas killed an innocent bystander and left four other people hurt.
