Earle to begin renovations on city park through Lowe’s Hometown Grant
EARLE, Arkansas — The City of Earle has begun renovations to Earle City Park. The city recently received a $152,000 Lowe’s Hometown Grant for the park upgrades that will include Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant play spaces and outdoor seating, basketball court renovations, landscaping, resurfaced pathways and enhanced park signage.

WYNNE — The Wynne Yellowjackets will hold a 7-on-7 tomorrow. Wynne head coach Clay Totty explained the advantages of 7-on-7’s. “You can gain experience with a DB in 7-on-7’s because what they’re doing in a ball game is very similar,” he said. “Offensively, it helps us with our routes and our reads and it allows your quarterback to have to go through his progression. It also allows you offensively to evaluate who will catch the ball in pressure situations.

Chamber Coffee Hosted by Watermelon Royalty
The Hope/Hempstead County Chamber of Commerce Community Coffee was hosted by the Watermelon Royalty on Wednesday July 24th. The 18th Annual Miss & Mister Watermelon Festival Pageant is set for Tuesday, August 6th at 6:00 pm at Klipsch Auditorium in City Hall in Hope. This exciting event is open to boys and girls from 0 to 18 years of age, with no admission fee for the public. All registration forms and fees must be postmarked by July 19th Additionally, the Hope Watermelon Beautiful Baby Contest is a charming photo contest for boys and girls aged 0-3. Photos and results will be displayed at the 48th Annual Watermelon Festival from August 8-10. Arkansas Center for Black Music to Present Celebration Concert Aug. 1
The Arkansas Center for Black Music at the University of Arkansas presents “The Finale” on August 1st at 7pm at the Meteor Guitar Gallery in Bentonville. Fort Smith, AR, Identifies Hospital Intruder
Police in Fort Smith, Arkansas, identify the man who caused a lockdown at an area hospital earlier this week. The man in question has been identified as 34-year-old John West. West was spotted in Mercy Hospital on Monday with what appeared to be a hand gun. The weapon turned out to be a water pistol that had been painted black to look like a real gun. It was found when West was eventually discovered hiding in a box in an educational room in the hospital.

Quorum court approves courthouse repair funds
OSCEOLA, Ark. (KAIT) - Mississippi County held a quorum court meeting on Tuesday, July 23 at 6 p.m. The main topic was repairs to the interior of the Osceola courthouse. About $3 million has already been used to repair the exterior of the building but now the attention shifts to the inside of the building which desperately needs repairs to the electrical, heat and cooling systems and other maintenance.
