AUBURN, Ala. (WRBL) — According to information sent to WRBL over the weekend, several students of Lee-Scott Academy have launched a Change.org petition to address recent changes in the school’s dress code, which would ban leggings.

The petition argues leggings have become an essential part of students’ daily attire due to their comfort and affordability. They allow students to concentrate on their studies without the constant worry about their clothing choices. The petition reads in part: “It’s time for our voices to be heard. Let’s rally together to bring back the approval of leggings in our dress code. Sign this petition, and support the right of Lee-Scott Academy students to wear leggings.”

WRBL has reaches out to Lee-Scott administrators to understand their reasons behind the alleged legging ban.

The new regulations mandate a jeans-only policy, which supporters of the petition argue hampers their comfort and places unnecessary financial stress on their families as they have to buy clothes to replace leggings in their students’ closets.

The students emphasize school policies should prioritize their learning and well-being above all else. They are now rallying together to call for the reinstatement of leggings in the dress code, urging their peers and the community to support their petition.

WRBL has learned the Lee-Scott administration responsible for the dress code has proposed a meeting with students to discuss a possible resolution. The meetings are set to take place this week. For now, the students and parents we spoke with say they would like to hold off on addressing the situation in an interview until after the meetings. We will keep you updated.
