AUBURN, Ala.  (WRBL) – Big news for BBQ lovers in Auburn! Country’s Barbecue is undergoing a three-million-dollar expansion, marking the end of an era and the beginning of a new chapter for the beloved restaurant.

For more than four decades, Country’s Barbecue has been a staple in Auburn, with generations of families making memories there. Carol Fillingim is one such loyal customer whose family has grown up with the restaurant.

“They are memories to keep in my heart because they have grown up here from the highchair to the big chair – and when you say Country’s they’re like yay,” Fillingim said.

Country’s Barbecue owner Larry Wilson appreciates the support from their dedicated patrons. “Our customers are just so great. We’ve got the most loyal customers in the world,” Wilson stated.

Friday, July 19, will be the last day to dine at the original 1978 location. The new restaurant, located next door, is set to open around August 12. The updated facility boasts an additional 2,000 square feet, offering new features such as outdoor dining, a screened-in porch, and a drive-through, enhancing the dining experience.

“More kitchen space, more room for catering, more spots for dining inside. We will also have a screened-in porch out here, so people can go down there, and we’ll have a drive-through that’s something new,” Wilson explained.

Wilson has ensured the new location retains the charm of the original by salvaging wood beams, signage, stained glass, and the iconic giant red rocking chair. The expansion also means the addition of 25 new jobs.

“I’m excited about the new location, but I’m definitely going to miss the old. This is home to us, and we love it,” Wilson shared.

For those interested in joining the Country’s Barbecue team, job fairs will be held on July 29 and August 2 from 9 am to 12 pm at the restaurant.

As the community says goodbye to the old building, anticipation builds for the exciting new features and continued tradition at Country’s Barbecue.
