LANETT — On Friday, the Lanett Senior Center received a visit from Dr. Christi Rose and Emily Wilson of HearingLife in Auburn for some complimentary hearing testing. A LaGrange native, Dr. Rose has been an audiologist for the past 22 years. Her office is located at 100 South College Street in downtown Auburn.

“The goal of what we are doing is to make people aware that they are experiencing some level of hearing loss,” she told The Valley Times-News. “Early detection can help prevent cognitive decline and early onset dementia.”

Hearing loss is the third most prevalent health condition in the U.S. It’s estimated that one out of every three people over 65 years of age has some degree of hearing loss. Studies have shown that most people experiencing it wait an average of seven years before seeking help. Hearing loss is fairly common among those who were exposed to hazardous noise levels in the workplace.

There are ten signs of hearing loss:

    • You require frequent repetition.
    • People seem to mumble or sound muffled.
    • You hear but have trouble understanding.
    • Background noise makes it hard to hear.
    • Phone conversations are difficult.
    • You turn the TV volume too loud.
    • You have difficulty following the conversations of two or more people.
    • You may not hear the doorbell or phone ringing.
    • You have ringing in your ears, and
    • You sometimes answer or respond inappropriately to conversations.

Dr. Rose has been with HearingLife for the past three years. Her office is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. CDT Monday through Friday. Her office can be contacted at (334) 209-6661 or online at cisr@hearinglife.com.

HearingLife has more than 700 offices in 42 U.S. states.

“Emily and I visit senior centers in our region when called on,” Dr. Rose said.

Each HearingLife office follows a scientific, results-oriented approach to hearing healthcare that’s delivered by highly skilled and caring professionals. The overall goal is to help more people hear better through life-changing hearing health delivered by the best-personalized care.
