PLEASANT TOWNSHIP, Ind. (WANE) — Two people were injured in a motorcycle crash Sunday night in Pleasant Township, according to the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office.

Steuben County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the single-vehicle crash around 10 p.m. Sunday on Bayview Road near Lake James Lane 345, where they found a woman — identified as a 24-year-old from Auburn — lying in the road unresponsive. They also found a 35-year-old man from Auburn lying on the ground near the road and the crashed motorcycle.

Upon investigation, sheriff’s deputies discovered that the man had been operating a black 2019 Harley Davidson Street Glide on Bayview Road when he for some reason failed to negotiate a curve. The left side of the motorcycle’s undercarriage then scraped the roadway, causing the motorcycle to rotate 180 degrees on its axis, throwing the woman onto the road before stopping in the opposite lane.

Neither of them was wearing a helmet, and police said alcohol was believed to be a factor in the crash.

The woman was taken to a Fort Wayne-area hospital in serious condition with a possible head injury, and the man was also taken to a Fort Wayne-area hospital in stable condition with a possible head injury and abrasions on his lower body.

    The crash remains under investigation.
