LOGAN COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — Members of multiple Kentucky law enforcement agencies teamed up for an investigation that resulted in the discovery of thousands of fentanyl tablets, along with marijuana, guns, and more than $20,000.

Through an ongoing joint investigation with Kentucky State Police and the South-Central Kentucky Drug Task Force, the Bowling Green-Warren County Drug Task Force said detectives obtained a search warrant for the home of 20-year-old Timothy W. Smotherman in Auburn.

The search warrant was executed in the 1100 block of Procter Mill Drive at approximately 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday, July 10. Authorities said they forced their way into the home as Smotherman was flushing fentanyl in order to destroy evidence.

According to officials, more than 2,000 fentanyl tablets were seized during the investigation of Smotherman. In addition, law enforcement reportedly seized 82 fentanyl tablets, more than 10 pounds of marijuana, two handguns, a money counter, a vacuum bag sealer, and $23,713 in cash from the suspect’s home.

Following the discovery of the aforementioned items, authorities said they arrested Smotherman for first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance (fentanyl, Class B felony), trafficking more than five pounds of marijuana (Class D felony), and tampering with physical evidence (Class D felony). However, additional charges are likely in the near future.

Officials said Smotherman was held in the Logan County Jail, pending arraignment in the Logan County District Court.
