Halsey has revealed the title of their fifth studio release -- The Great Impersonator -- described as a "confessional concept album" in a new career-spanning trailer that arrived on Tuesday, August 27.

"I really thought this album would be the last one I ever made," Halsey says as the clip plays, finally offering a glimpse into the follow-up to their epic 2021 release, If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power , that they said they were feverishly working on at the beginning of the summer.

“What if I debuted in the early 2000s? The ’90s? The ’80s? The ’70s?” Halsey asks in the teaser. “Am I still Halsey every time? In every timeline, do I still get sick? Do I become a mom?” While taking on different superstar personas, including David Bowie and Britney Spears , Halsey continues, “If it all ended right now, is this a person you’d be proud to leave behind? Is it even you?” At the end of the trailer a caption reads, "'The Great Impersonator' A Confessional Concept Album by Halsey."

Just days ago, fans were also gifted with a visualizer for the album's third offering, “Lonely Is the Muse,” after dropping up a full music video for their Britney Spears and Monica -sampling “Lucky” at the end of July, and the album's first song — not first single — "The End" in early June.

Halsey was diagnosed with lupus and a rare T-cell lymphoproliferative disorder in 2022 and noted that after taking time away for their health, they were excited to return to music, although some listeners' recent responses have led them to regret that decision somewhat.

Nevertheless, true fans won't have to wait long to see Halsey performing live, as they are set to take the stage at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards scheduled to air on Wednesday, September 11 at 8PM ET/PT along with the night's other performers LISA , Benson Boone , Lenny Kravitz , Sabrina Carpenter , Chappell Roan , Camila Cabello , GloRilla , and Rauw Alejandro .
