Emma Roberts reveals 'it’s my true dream' to play Britney Spears in her biopic

Actress, Emma Roberts , is ready to serve Pop star realness should she get the opportunity to play music icon, Britney Spears , in the forthcoming film adaptation of her memoir The Woman In Me .

Recently, the actress was suggested by Spears longtime assistant, Felicia Culotta , to play the lead role of the Pop icon and Roberts says it’s actually a role she’s been preparing for her entire life. “I was like, I love her assistant,” Roberts told Cosmo saying she hopes the recommendation becomes reality. “I mean, it’s my true dream to play Britney Spears. It’s a rumor, but I hope maybe it’ll come true.”

She continued, “I remember, I locked myself in my room and listened to In the Zone and said, ‘I cannot leave this room until I memorize every word.'” Her commitment to Spears’ music doesn’t stop there, Roberts says she’s still a fan today and even sings some of the Pop diva’s songs to her son. “I sing Britney to my son in the bath all the time. I’m always like, ‘God, he must think I’m so weird.’ That’s some millennial parenting.”

While we’ll have to wait and see who snags the role, here’s what we do know about the upcoming film. Universal Pictures gained rights to Spears ’ memoir, The Woman in Me , earlier this year and is creating a biopic based off its contents directed by Jon M. Chu ( Crazy Rich Asian s, In the Heights ).

With the book selling more than 2.5 million copies in less than a year, the news of a film adaptation has fans buzzing to see it all play out on screen as Spears ’ memoir caused quite a stir since its release in October 2023. Full of her own, never-been-told truths surrounding her highly-public court ordered conservatorship back in 2021, upbringing, and past relationships, the book has captured the eyes of many worldwide.
