The project features 13 new songs from Strait including the dynamic title track, “Cowboys and Dreamers,” which Strait says he finds highly relatable as a cowboy in the modern world.

“It’s a really cool song, so cool that I thought I should name the whole album after it,” the 72-year-old said of the track penned by Jessie Jo Dillon , Keith Gattis and Geroge’s son, Bubba Strait . “‘Sometimes I feel like the last of a dying breed, trying to find where I fit” he recited, quoting lyrics from the song before adding, “That pretty much says it all.”

Another standout track for Strait on the project is "Honky Tonk Hall Of Fame,” which features songwriter, mega Country star and pal, Chris Stapleton . “It’s a good ol’ honky-tonker and I mean a good one,” he shared of the song that sits #8 on the track list. “Chris was kind enough to sing it with me on the record. It was fun, we had a great time doin’ it.”

Upon announcing the album earlier this year, Strait shared it is dedicated to three late members of his team including longtime manager Erv Woolsey , fiddle player Gene Elders and road manager Tom Foote who all passed away in the Spring of 2024. While the album as a whole pays homage to those members of his team, Strait also pays a special tribute to late hero, Waylon Jennings by including a cover of Jennings’ classic, “Waymore’s Blues,” which Strait often puts his own spin on at his live shows.

“We’ve been doing this song — me and the band — for quite a few years on stage live and we’ve been doing it a little bit different than Waylon did it,” he said of the track that will now have a permanent spot on one of his albums. “I just love it this way because it features my band a lot and those boys are pretty good,” he laughed. “Next time you come see us, we’re going to play it for you.”
