Mexico man charged for allegedly shooting brother 17 times
The Audrain County Prosecutor has filed charges against a Mexico man for allegedly fatally shooting his brother in May 2024. Stephen L. Welch, 30, faces charges of second-degree murder, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon for the shooting death of his brother Christopher Welch, 36, 17 times with a handgun.
UPDATE: Martinsburg-area farmer killed in Tuesday’s storms
A farmer from mid-Missouri’s Martinsburg has been killed in Tuesday night’s severe thunderstorms in Audrain County. Former 939 the Eagle reporter Mathew Pilger, who is now with Mexico radio station KXEO, reports farmer Mike Ahrens was killed when putting a tractor in a shed on a farm. Audrain County Sheriff Matt Oller tells Mr. Pilger that a power pole snapped and knocked Mr. Ahrens off the tractor.
Storms knock out power to thousands in Mid-Missouri

SECOND UPDATE: According to the National Weather Service, some of the most severe damage in mid-Missouri was reported in both Audrain and Boone Counties. Large mature trees were reported down in Vandalia, with numerous trees blocking roads across Audrain County. In Laddonia, a roof was blown off a trailer. And in Benton City, siding was blown off a church just south of the Mexico Airport.
