Augusta County Sheriff’s Office searching for missing Staunton man
AUGUSTA COUNTY, Va. (ROCKTOWN NOW) – The Augusta County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s help in searching for a missing person. According to a news release from Lt. Leslie Snyder, Kevin Robert Robertson, 39, of Staunton, was last seen on Tuesday, July 2, but was reported missing by a family member Wednesday night. He is a white male, stands 6’2″ tall, weighs 220 lbs., is bald and has brown eyes.
Mt. Solon woman dies in Wednesday night crash near Churchville
CHURCHVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – State Police are investigating a fatal crash late Wednesday night in Augusta County just inside the national forest near Churchville. State Police say a Chevy Suburban was traveling south around 11:30pm on Stribling Springs Road near Stover Shop Road when it ran off the right side of the road, struck an embankment and tree, then overturned. The driver, 41-year old Martha N. Root of nearby Mount Solon, was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle. She died at the scene.

Woman accused of sexually assaulting young boy in Augusta County
VERONA — The Augusta County Sheriff's Office arrested a woman Tuesday who is accused of sexually assaulting a young boy in 2019, according to an arrest report. Darla L. Atkinson, 53, of Bedford, is charged with aggravated sexual battery of a child and taking indecent liberties with a child, both felonies.

Waynesboro library hopes to connect local authors with readers
Libraries in the Valley are connecting local authors to aspiring writers and fans this summer. The libraries in Fishersville, Staunton and Waynesboro have united to host Local Author Fest on three Saturdays. The events allow community members to meet local writers and hear experts share advice about self-publishing and other topics, said Keith Bell, community learning librarian at the Augusta County Library in Fishersville. Each event is a unique experience, featuring a diverse range of authors, he said.
